FAQS

What to expect at the first session?

The first session gives us an opportunity to meet and for you to get a sense of whether I am someone you'd like to work with. I will take a few details and explain how the process works. If I have concerns about us working together I may need to consult with my supervisor and get back to you. If we decide to continue we will arrange a regular time to meet.

How often will I have appointments?

Sessions take 50 minutes and take place once a week.
There is no limit to the number of sessions, it's tailored around you. When you feel like you are moving towards the end of therapy we will discuss it and bring the work to a close in a managed way.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes, what is discussed during your session remains private and confidential. As a psychotherapist in training I discuss my work with a UKCP registered supervisor. They are the only person I share your details with as they would contact you should I be unexpectedly unable to continue working. As part of my training I discuss my work within a peer supervision group of UKCP registered psychotherapists in training. This group is completely confidential and identifying details of clients are not shared. I may wish to use our work in my writing as part of my qualification, but I will ask your permission first and conceal your identity by changing your details e.g. age, gender etc.

The only time confidentiality is broken is in exceptional circumstances, where there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or to others. If this situation arose, I would try to involve you in any action that would need to be taken to ensure your safety and of others.

Do you comply with any recognised standards?

I am a trainee member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and I abide by the UKCP code of ethics
